Somewhere There

An alternative performance space devoted largely to free jazz and free improvisation, Somewhere There presents consistently challenging music. Guitarist Ken Aldcroft’s Convergence Ensemble is an exploratory sextet that spontaneously rearranges and interprets Aldcroft’s compositions, whether adding substantial heat (usually from Evan Shaw’s saxophone and Joe Sorbara’s drums) or light (Nicole Rampersaud’s airy trumpet lines and Scott Thomson’s burbling trombone) to the consistently weaving lines of Aldcroft’s guitar and Wes Neal’s bass. Feb. 13. Ancient Egypt is constructed around classical guitarist Holger Schoorl, whose pieces alternately delve into Morton Feldman–like minimalism and two-beat antique dance rhythms. Schoorl is joined in the group by trombonist Scott Thomson and bassist Pete Johnston. Feb. 3, 10, 17 and 24.—Stuart Broomer 340 Dufferin St. (enter from Melbourne Ave.), 647-669-0404, somewherethere.org.
