Luminato launches its 2008 season with a free concert by the Count Basie Orchestra and special guest, 14-year-old Montrealer Nikki Yanofsky. The Basie Orchestra has continued since its front man’s death in 1984, and is as true to Basie’s vitality as to the letter of his music, releasing Basie Is Back (2006) with fine versions of such signature tunes as “Jumpin’ at the Woodside” and “April in Paris.” — Stuart Broomer
