With a flair for popping funk rhythms, electric bassist Rich Brown has brought his distinct touch to a host of bands, including the Juno-nominated local Indo-jazz fusion group Autorickshaw. His own outfit, Rinsethealgorithm, formed in 2004, offers an updated interpretation of jazz fusion: it mixes the harmonic sophistication of Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter with contemporary dance grooves. Featuring both Robi Botos and David Virelles on keyboards, Rinsethealgorithm launches its first CD, Locutions, Nov. 2. Carlo Berardinucci sings classic ballads with some of the same period flair that distinguishes jazz-pop crossover sensation Michael Bublé; accompaniments are provided by Whitney Smith and Jake Wilkinson, Nov 6.—Stuart Broomer
