Soprano saxophonist Najee possesses everything one might expect of a successful smooth-jazz artist—a polished sound, minimal melodies and electronic detail—but there’s also something that gives him a depth many of the genre’s artists lack. Najee has firm roots in rhythm and blues, and mainstream jazz, as evidenced by his years working with such artists as jazz keyboardist George Duke, Patti LaBelle and Prince.—Brent Ledger
