A talented vocalist who has a clear, direct approach to classic material, Karina Zorn sings with a light touch that invites listeners to wrap her songs in their own memories. On her debut CD, Through These Eyes, the emphasis is on such memorable ballads as “Willow Weep for Me,” “Moonlight in Vermont” and “Songbird.” Adding interpretive depth is often the responsibility of her accompanists, and she’s assembled many of Toronto’s finest musicians for that essential role: trumpeter Guido Basso, trombonist Russ Little, saxophonist Mike Murley, guitarist Rob Piltch, drummer Terry Clarke, pianist Hilario Durán, and bassist and arranger Duncan Hopkins.—Stuart Broomer
