Jane Bunnett and the Cuban Piano Masters

The subject of the NFB doc Spirits of Havana, saxophonist and flutist Jane Bunnett has been a vigorous advocate of Cuban music for almost two decades. She has been teaming with that country’s pianists since 1992; this third edition of the Cuban Piano Masters includes her long-time collaborator Hilario Durán, her band’s current pianist Elio Villafranca, and one of the grand veterans of the style, Guillermo Rubalcaba. In concert, they survey significant compositions from the breadth of the island’s musical history.—Stuart Broomer
