It’s hard to characterize this mercurial trio, which unites Maritime bass clarinetist Jeff Reilly with Ireland-based bassist Barry Guy and violinist Maya Homburger. Reilly’s areas of expertise include string-ensemble composition and jazz; Homburger is a baroque music specialist; Guy’s work spans period-instrument ensembles, big band compositions for his London Jazz Composers Orchestra, and the unfettered joys of free improvisation. With that breadth of skills and interests, the program ranges from pieces by baroque composer H. I. F. Biber to original compositions and free improvisation. Guy may possess the most startling technical mastery of any bassist performing today.—Stuart Broomer
