This is the third year in a row that Bob DeAngelis has mounted his New Year’s tribute to fellow clarinettist and swing legend Benny Goodman. The show also travelled to Carnegie Hall last January, so it’s only fitting that DeAngelis has added some of the original arrangements of Goodman’s legendary 1938 Carnegie Hall appearance to the program. The 50-member Champagne Symphony is a pops orchestra made up of jazz and classical musicians and conducted by trumpeter-arranger John MacLeod, who also appears as a soloist along with violinists Moshe Hammer and Lenny Solomon, and trombonist Laurie Bower. The repertoire pays tribute to Artie Shaw as well as Goodman, with singer Melissa Stylianou and vibraphonist Frank Wright along as special guests.—Stuart Broomer
