In recent years, few musicians have had the impact of Brad Mehldau. A thoughtful and energetic player, Mehldau is obviously influenced by the work of Bill Evans and Chick Corea, yet he maintains a distinctly original approach to repertoire that includes Radiohead and Nick Drake songs, John Coltrane’s “Countdown” and his own compositions.—Stuart Broomer
