Well known as a radio host and interviewer for NPR, Ben Sidran has had a richly varied career, from writing the Steve Miller hit “Space Cowboy” to holding forth on jazz’s influence on the American proto-abstract painter Stuart Davis to performing the emotionally charged concert for García Lorca celebrating the Spanish poet’s centennial. Sidran is a dedicated pianist and songwriter with core jazz values honed through collaborations with such consummate and canonical artists as Blue Mitchell and Jon Hendricks.—Stuart Broomer
