Barry Elmes

Few Canadian jazz musicians are as distinguished as Barry Elmes: a frequent award winner, he has toured internationally with his own quintet and the local outfit Time Warp; plus, his work as a drummer and composer manages to be both solid and imaginative. Currently the chair of York University’s music department, he is joined in this faculty concert by trombonist Ron Westray, saxophonist Kelly Jefferson, guitarist Reg Schwager and bassist Steve Wallace, for a program that mixes Elmes’ recent compositions with previous recordings.—Stuart Broomer
