The Word On The Street

Best-sellers and cult favourites read at this bucolic celebration of literacy that preaches mainly to the converted, but does offer a few stops for the uninitiated. Attractions include a tent devoted to local bands and music-related books, and another offering helpful tips on storytelling, rhyming and other tricks for luring very young readers into the fold. There are also dedicated areas for comic books and graphic novels, queer writers, this year’s nominees for the coveted Toronto Book Awards, and workshops for aspiring scribes.—Brent Ledger
