Toronto International Latin Film Festival 2008

This festival works the “Latin” for all it’s worth, showing not just films from the Spanish diaspora but also from Italy, France and Brazil. Features range from a Parisian mother-daughter drama starring Isabelle Huppert, Mélanie Laurent and Greta Scacchi (Hidden Love) to a blockbuster doc on bossa nova featuring two of its greatest composers, Roberto Menescal and Carlos Lyra (This Is Bossa Nova). In addition, there are films from Mexico (To Die on a Sunday and My Mexican Shiva), Colombia (Letters From Fatty) and Argentina (Giants of Valdez and Regresados). —Brent Ledger
