The big top’s many cultural guises—from escapist romp to capitalist nightmare—are explored in the Toronto Public Library’s fascinating new exhibit, The Circus Comes to Town. Local archival photographs, including ones of CNE performers, are shown alongside playbills, illustrated books, posters and prints, with items dating from the 1840s through to 1990. TD Gallery.
