Producer Lionel Félix’s grand design is to raise both the quality of flamenco and its public profile. To that end, he has brought in a first-class headliner: Compañia de baile flamenca de Mercedes Ruiz. Ever since Ruiz won three prestigious international flamenco competitions in a row a few years ago, the Spaniard has been in high demand. Juncá is a homage to her hometown, Jerez, and the barrio of San Miguel where she was born, generally considered to be the birthplace of flamenco.—Paula Citron
