A new physical theatre piece by the imaginative director Allyson McMackon is welcome news. Theatre Rusticle’s works are always developed from scratch in collaboration with the cast; Birnam Wood is a singular take on Macbeth—from a forest’s point of view. If the trees could talk, what stories would they tell? These are the dreams and nightmares of the woods, as manifested by six Tree Spirits, who have borne witness to greed, power and unimaginable atrocities. Preview March 17.—Paula Citron
