This French-Algerian choreographer explores the sticky concept of “foreigner” for World Stage’s winter program. Loin…(Far…) follows Ouramdane’s father’s journey as an Algerian soldier in the French Army in Indochina—one colonial force fighting another. Dance, video, pedal-controlled sounds and beat-inspired poetry are all part of this solo that springs from a quest for identity and a desire to understand the effects of imperialism.—Paula Citron
