The toast of Cuba’s dance scene became a Canadian darling back in 2007, when Vida! stormed the inaugural Luminato festival. And now Alfonso’s all-female company is touring the country to packed houses with its fusion of flamenco, Afro-Cuban and ballet. Fuerza y Compás (Force and Beat) features a potent selection of short works designed to show off the considerable gifts of 17 dancers and six musicians.—Paula Citron
