There’s flamenco and then there’s this Montreal group. Founded in 2006 by Montreal choreographer Myriam Allard and French singer Hedi “el moro” Graja, this ferocious company has taken a shine to the number 12, inspired by Nicolas Grimaldi’s Ontologie du temps. EL 12 explores the digit in all its mystical forms, from the basic 12 beats of flamenco, to 12 as both the beginning and the end of a cycle.—Paula Citron
