Genée International Ballet Competition

For its first 70 years, the prestigious annual competition held by the Royal Academy of Dance took place in London, but since 2002 the Genée has toured to Sydney, Birmingham, Athens and Hong Kong. It’s now Toronto’s turn, marking the first time a North American city has hosted the highly hyped event. The 2008 jury includes RAD president and former Royal Ballet prima ballerina Dame Antoinette Sibley, Karen Kain, Rex Harrington and Joffrey Ballet artistic director Ashley Wheater. —Paula Citron
