DANCE AT THE FRINGE

  • Various Locations

The dance component of Toronto’s alternative theatre fest features eight wildly diverse companies chosen by lottery. Artists’ Play Dance Theatre uses a fusion of waltz and contemporary for the romantic HeartSurge; AX-S Dance’s Twentysomethings sets about conquering the quarter-life crisis; Femmes du Feu Collective combines aerial dance and circus arts with indie rock; Mercenary Dance Theatre draws inspiration from T.S. Eliot’s epic The Waste Land; Thistle Dance Works presents whimsical choreography by Emma Kate Millar and Tanya Crowder; Alias Dance Project fuses contemporary and urban dance; Dancycle is known for its comedy club performances; and Inertia Productions, which won the 2008 Montreal Spirit of the Fringe Award, performs their feel-good comedy show Dancing in My Unbirthday Suit.—Paula Citron
