Soprano Virginia Hatfield appears alongside Montreal’s Jansonius String Quartet and Ottawa’s brothers-and-sisters group, Quartuor Despax, for a three-part spectacular marking the 200th anniversaries of the death of Haydn and the birth of Mendelssohn. Segment one features chamber music by Haydn; segment two focuses on songs by Haydn, Schubert and Mendelssohn; and segment three is devoted to Mendelssohn’s chamber music, including his masterful Octet, op. 20, written at the tender age of 16. Concert-goers are invited to bring an original poem for composer Omar Daniel to set, and the musicians to perform, on the spot.—Rick MacMillan
