Famously dismissed as a “shabby little shocker” by highbrow American critic Joseph Kerman, Puccini’s Tosca, with its potent brew of nail-biting melodrama, melodic inspiration and masterful orchestration, grabs audiences from the first powerful chords and never lets go. Adrianne Pieczonka alternates with Julie Makerov in the title role as a diva driven to bargain her body for her lover’s life.
