Toronto Symphony Orchestra: La Plus Forte

Music director Peter Oundjian and the orchestra wind up this season’s New Creations Festival with Irish composer Gerald Barry’s La Plus Forte, an intense mini-opera based on a play by August Strindberg and starring the artist for whom it was written, Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan. Also on the program is the world premiere of Quebec composer Jacques Hétu’s Symphony no. 5 (commissioned by the TSO), as well as Argentine Osvaldo Golijov’s The Last Round, a tribute to the revered tango master Astor Piazzolla.—Rick MacMillan
