Toronto Mendelssohn Choir

The TMC’s contemplative Good Friday concert, amid the rich acoustics of one of the city’s grandest churches, features cellist John Marshman and the choir under conductor Noel Edison in John Tavener’s rarely performed Svyati. The cellist is situated at the front of the church and the choir at the back, emphasizing call-and-response effects. On its own, the choir sings, among other selections, The Reproaches by John Sanders. April 2. St. Paul’s Basilica. A Night at the Opera showcases the veteran 150-voice choir, along with renowned Canadian tenor and Met regular Richard Margison, soprano Joni Henson, mezzo-soprano Lauren Segal and baritone Doug MacNaughton, in solo and choral excerpts from favourite operas.
