The winners of the 2007 Banff International String Quartet Competition, currently in residence at the University of Melbourne, join forces here with pianist Hinrich Alpers. On the program are Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet no. 2 in A Minor, op. 13; Robert Schumann’s Piano Sonata no. 1 in F-sharp Minor, op. 11; and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Quintet for Piano and Strings in G Minor, op. 57.—Rick MacMillan
