Luminato presents a digitally restored print of the 1929 Indian silent film, with a new orchestral score composed and conducted by Britain’s Nitin Sawhney, performed live by members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Based on a tale from the Hindu epic the Mahabharata, the film tells the story of two neighbouring kings who are pitted against each other, risking their kingdoms and the woman they both love in a fateful game of dice. — Rick MacMillan
