Jeanne Lamon and Ivars Taurins direct Bach in Leipzig, a narrated musical performance that highlights the breadth of Johann Sebastian Bach’s compositions during his years (1723–1750) as director of music at Leipzig and Kantor of the city’s Thomasschule. Along the way, we are introduced to local merchants, society ladies and town councillors, the very types for whom he wrote some of his grandest scores.—Rick MacMillan
