This earlier Bach work is not as well known as St. Matthew Passion, but it doesn’t require a hard sell. The insistent cries of the opening chorus still send shivers, whatever your faith. Noel Edison conducts the 70-voice Mendelssohn Singers and a quintet of soloists.
