Here’s a rare chance to hear the haunting instrument known as the glass armonica, as performed by soloist Dennis James with the Via Salzburg Chamber Orchestra, led by artistic director Mayumi Seiler. This instrument, which consists of a series of glass bowls or goblets, creates ethereal, sustained sounds similar to those produced by running a wet finger along the rim of a wine glass. This concert includes two well-known Mozart works that feature the glass armonica, plus pieces by Archangelo Corelli, Felix Mendelssohn and Gary Eister. — Rick MacMillan
