Johannes Debus, the young German maestro and newly minted music director of the Canadian Opera Company, makes his debut with the RCO in a showcase for three 2008–2009 RCO Concerto Competition–winning soloists: mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta and pianists Nicholas King and Lucas Porter. Giunta, who recently joined the COC’s Ensemble Studio, performs Ravel’s exotic Shéhérazade; King and Porter reprise their prize-winning performance of Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos.—Rick MacMillan
