Otello

The COC revisits Verdi’s take on the great Shakespearean tragedy, with baritone Clifton Forbis—Siegmund in the COC’s Ring Cycle—as the titular governor of Cyprus. Also appearing in this new co-production with the Welsh National Opera are baritone Scott Hendricks as Otello’s vengeful ensign, Iago; soprano Tiziana Caruso as the governor’s wronged wife, Desdemona; and Emanuele D’Aguanno as the young officer Cassio. Italian conductor Paolo Olmi is in the pit for this staging overseen by Paul Curran, the new artistic director of the Norwegian Opera.—Rick MacMillan
