One of the country’s great treasures, this training orchestra recreates itself every year, running auditions and choosing young players destined for high-level careers—one-third of Canada’s professional orchestral musicians are NYOC alumni. Celebrating its 48th season, the orchestra’s 2008 tour sees guest conductor Sir Andrew Davis leading the group in performances of Québécois Éric Morin’s Museum Music; Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony no. 5 in C Minor, op. 67; and Richard Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben.—Rick MacMillan
