Music Toronto: Ursula Oppens

Veteran New York pianist Ursula Oppens is renowned for successfully combining new music and classics in mixed programs. In 2008, she celebrated the 100th birthday of the American composer Elliott Carter with critically acclaimed performances of his complete works for solo piano in Boston, New York and San Francisco. Co-founder of the contemporary music ensemble Speculum Musicae, Oppens brings together American composer John Corigliano (Etude Fantasy, Winging It and Fantasia on an Ostinato) with Beethoven (Fantasy in G Minor, op. 77, and Eroica Variations, op. 35) for her MT recital.—Rick MacMillan
