This foursome takes its name from Antonie Brentano, whom many scholars believe to have been Ludwig van Beethoven’s “immortal beloved” (as he addressed her, anonymously, in one of his letters). Violinists Serena Canin and Mark Steinberg, cellist Nina Maria Lee and violist Misha Amory have captured numerous international awards for their superb playing. Here, opening Music Toronto’s 37th season, they perform Franz Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in G Minor, op. 20, no. 3; Arnold Schoenberg’s String Quartet no. 4; and Mendelssohn’s String Quartet no. 2 in A Minor, op. 13.—Rick MacMillan
