The Sharon Temple, a distinct architectural landmark that gets its name from a village just north of Newmarket, served as a place of worship for the austere 19th-century sect the Children of Peace. Situated in a park-like setting, the structure acts as a museum and home to this summer festival.
Anton Kuerti. The celebrated Canadian pianist performs Joseph Haydn’s Piano Sonata in E-flat Major, Hob. XVI/52; Felix Mendelssohn’s Fantasie in F-sharp Minor, op. 28; and Ludwig van Beethoven’s 33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli, op. 120. June 14. $45.
Elmer Iseler Singers. Lydia Adams conducts her 20-voice professional choir in Peter Togni’s Lamentations of Jeremiah, as well as Old 100th by Isaac Watts and John Wesley, Toronto composer John Beckwith’s Sharon Fragments (based on hymn tunes by David Willson, the founder of the Children of Peace) and Eric Whitacre’s When David Heard. June 21. $45.
Krisztina Szabó. The Hungarian-Canadian mezzo-soprano pairs up with pianist Susan Ball for three songs from Benjamin Britten’s cycle A Birthday Hansel (written in 1975 for the Queen Mother’s 75th birthday), Gustav Mahler’s Wer hat dies Liedlein erdacht? and songs by the Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály. June 28. $45.
Nathaniel Dett Chorale. Brainerd Blyden-Taylor conducts his celebrated choir, which is named after the Drummondville-born composer and pianist who died in 1943, in a yet-to-be-announced program of Afrocentric music. July 5. $50.
Nikolai Demidenko. The Russian-born British pianist offers a solo program that includes Robert Schumann’s Faschingsschwank aus Wien, op. 26, and Carnaval, op. 9; as well as Frédéric Chopin’s 24 Preludes, op. 28. June 7. $45.
