Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts

This series of noon- and twilight-hour events takes place at the opera house’s Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, showcasing both young and established artists. Classical performances include young Canadian pianist Lucas Porter in a concert celebrating the 200th anniversary of Chopin’s birth, March 2; students from the U of T faculty of music’s voice and collaborative piano programs in selections from Ned Rorem’s War Scenes, Franz Lehár’s Fieber, Jacques Leguerney’s Le Carnaval, Brahms’ Ophelia-Lieder and Canadian composer Harry Somers’s The Fool, March 3; members of the wind and brass sections of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra in a group of chamber music gems, March 4; pianist Suren Barry in music by Chopin and his contemporaries, March 9; the Composer and His Muse, featuring young artists of the U of T Opera Division in a sampling of operatic selections, March 11; Hommage à Chopin, a two-part celebration of contemporary music inspired by Chopin, as well as an all-Chopin program by Russian-Canadian pianist Alexander Seredenko, March 16 and 17; and Miniatures, a selection of brief contemporary works played by Toronto’s Arraymusic Ensemble, March 30.—Rick MacMillan
