An intriguing pairing: Brahms’s Symphony No. 4, his last, and Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations, a song cycle composed before he turned 30. The symphony is Brahms at his most warmly burnished, while the Britten, sung by soprano Karina Gauvin, opens a fresh new English page on Rimbaud’s groundbreaking symbolist French poetry.
