The disappointment was palpable when illness forced this hometown opera superstar to cancel his much-anticipated appearance at the COC’s diamond anniversary concert last November. He promised he’d make it up, and he’s keeping his word. John Hess joins Heppner on piano for an afternoon more lieder-ish than operatic, with a series of works by Grieg, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky.
