Wangechi Mutu

Kenyan-born, New York–based Wangechi Mutu creates collages that emphasize the nightmarish qualities of the media’s fetishizing of race and female sexuality. Her image database consists of fashion magazines, National Geographic and African art books. To her collages—largely depictions of body parts—she often applies glitter, fur and paint, for an effect both terrifying and humorous. Artwork not for sale.—David Balzer
