Tacita Dean

Presented in collaboration with the Images Festival and Cinematheque Ontario’s Free Screen series, Tacita Dean’s Craneway Event is a chance to catch the last appearance on film of the late, legendary choreographer Merce Cunningham. Filmed in a light-filled former Ford assembly plant in Richmond, California, Dean’s 108-minute work is shown in scheduled screenings rather than as a looped installation. The film concentrates solely on the rehearsal process; filmed over three days, it follows dancers as they count out their movements, without music, under the watchful eye and forceful directives of Cunningham.
