Swintak has fast become associated in these parts with spectacular conceptualism: creating the kind of event you can bring your friends to, maybe even after a few drinks. She once tacked up an impressive array of junk—dirty dishes, jeans, crumpled panties—in the AGO’s Swing Space. Last year’s Nuit Blanchers will remember her Dumpster boutique hotel, located in an alleyway behind the Burger King at College and Spadina, easily the most ingenious piece of the entire evening. This fall, she presents the as-yet-undisclosed results of a summer-long residency at YYZ Artists’ Outlet. Artwork not for sale.—David Balzer
