Stefanie Fiore

The unique design style of Toronto’s Italian and Portuguese communities is often mocked by the WASPy minimalist-loving establishment, but photographer Stefanie Fiore shows its fascinating meticulousness, positioning it, for better or worse, as classicism’s contemporary iteration. Examining the homes of two Italian families who arrived here shortly after World War II, Fiore captures the ethnic, historical and familial pride inherent in these lavish—if ersatz—spaces. Artwork $500–$700.—David Balzer
