Shelley Adler’s portraits of women are affectless and flat, drawing the viewer in with their sullen refusal to engage. Alison Lambert’s portraits, by contrast, are heavily worked exercises in charcoal, pastel and torn layers of paper—an homage to the classic Old Masters. Artwork $3,500–$12,000.
