Portrait of a Patron: The Dukszta Collection

  • University of Toronto Art Centre
  • 15 King’s College Circle View on map »

Janusz Dukszta is one of those rare specimens: influential yet too often unsung. The former NDP MPP, psychiatrist and arts patron has, since 1953, commissioned dozens of artworks, many of which are portraits of himself. This must-see show, curated by Gordon Hatt, brings together 70 or so of these portraits and promises to be a revealing look at the evolution of contemporary figuration and, in turn, at the artist’s relationship to his or her patron. Artwork not for sale.—David Balzer
