Not Quite How I Remember It

The Power Plant’s latest group show deals with the broad topic of how artists and audiences engage with history. The show pivots on conceptual approaches that have emerged since the 1960s and ’70s, ones privileging irreverent means of understanding the past. A signature piece, Nancy Davenport’s Weekend Campus DVD, references the famous tracking shot of a car accident from Jean-Luc Godard’s Le Weekend to comment on the legacy of student activism. Other participants include Walid Ra’ad, Sharon Hayes and U.K. artist Olivia Plender, best known for her super-hip epic comic book inspired by Zola’s The Masterpiece.
