From the Melting Pot into the Fire: Contemporary Ceramics in Israel

Ceramics occupy an important place in the craft culture of contemporary Israel, so it’s no surprise that the medium has been used to express the state’s troubled existence. This show brings together 37 works by 42 artists, touching on aspects of immigration and geography that continue to define Israel’s citizenry. Artists Marcelle Klein and Tami Bar-Lev collaborate for the elegant hourglass-esque Lie of the Land, and Avner Singer and Varda Bar Shamai skew to the more explicit with earthenware blocks covered in Hebrew lettering. Artwork not for sale.—David Balzer
