Lorenzo Pepito

Still-life painting in the postmodern world is, or at least should be, a rich genre: has there ever been so much stuff to paint? Lorenzo Pepito concentrates on shoeboxes, a particularly fecund exercise now, when wild sneaker boxes and their contents court pop culture–obsessed collectors. Pepito’s oil-on-canvas works add to the already artful packages by arranging them in dynamic patterns. In Doc Martens Emblem, four boxes converge architecturally; in Converse Speak, 11 boxes look as if they’ve just been tossed into the air. Artwork price TBA.—David Balzer
