Kim Chan’s beautiful acrylic paintings are representational, though they depict abstracted views of the human body fully or half-submerged in water. The subject matter is straight out of David Hockney, but Chan typically moves in for a closer look, isolating her figures from posh or objectified circumstances. Their blobbiness under water, and the shadows that inevitably rest beneath them, suggest the self-reflexive, psychological aspects of a cool dip. Artwork $1,500–$2,000.—David Balzer
