Kelly Richardson’s is a gothic, filmic vision, one that takes the natural landscape and imposes the inventions of both industry and science fiction onto it. Her last showing in Toronto was a video piece entitled Exiles of the Shattered Star, which depicted a placid area in England’s Lake District caught in an apocalyptic asteroid shower. (It has since gone on to the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, where it was one of the banner works in the Cinema Effect: Illusion, Reality, and the Moving Image exhibit.) Richardson’s latest video, Twilight Avenger, features a dark, enigmatic forest vista containing what looks to be a radioactive deer. Artwork prices TBA. —David Balzer
